Outstanding Santa Rosa J.C. student Tate Barend knows how hard it is to stay the course through grade school and into college. This extraordinary young man who has mastered his own set of learning disabilities established a scholarship through Petaluma Educational Foundation last year for students like himself, who have worked hard and found a way to be successful in school.

While the former Petaluma High School student, adventurer and sportsman is busy with mid terms and awaiting news on a transfer into a four year university, he has set up a crowdfunding campaign for his 2017 Lift Off Scholarship to support the educational needs of students with learning disabilities.
Tate writes: "When you think of personalities such as Albert Einstein, Richard Branson, Steve Jobs and Walt Disney, most people only see the successful, often legendary careers each one built in their field. Most people don’t realize that every single one of those highly motivated individuals suffered from one learning disability or another. Imagine if they hadn’t reached their goals! Every one of us is capable of changing the world -- some of us just need a bit of a boost to reach that first step!"

Petaluma Educational Foundation is honored to manage 63 scholarships for donors who provide the Foundation with clear criteria for selecting recipients. In 2016, the non-profit awarded over $208,300 to seniors graduating from all Petaluma area high schools, bringing the total to over $2,954,393 awarded since the program’s inception in 1990.
(Click here for) The PEF Scholarship program provides financial awards acknowledging a variety of student accomplishments. Scholarships are given to those attending 4-year colleges, community colleges and vocational programs. Scholarship applications are available to view throughout the year with an annual update at the start of the calendar year.
