The Petaluma Arts Center presents theNeuwPolitic: Artists Explore, a juried regional competition, on display from April 4th to May 20th, 2017.
The exhibition will include work from 80 artists representing 12 counties in Northern and Central California exploring the current political climate as each individual artist envisions it.
Artworks include anything the artists consider relevant to their interpretation of theNeuwPolitic, abstract or representational, functional or non-functional. Over 300 artists submitted work.
Artists were asked to consider this question: “Now is the time for a much-needed dialogue surrounding politics; can art help start these conversations and facilitate the connections that are so needed?”
Now is the time for a much-needed dialogue surrounding politics, and artistic expression provides us with a unique platform to share that dialogue. Art gives us a voice, it unites, and tells unique stories. In times of great change and turmoil, art can provide a solace, a human connection across the time spectrum.
Can art help these conversations and facilitate the connections that are so needed now?
The jurors are art dealer Paul Mahder of the Paul Mahder Gallery in Healdsburg, CA; and art consultant Susan Larson of Sebastopol, CA. Three cash awards will be given to the winners: $1,500 for first place, $750 for second place, and $500 dollars for third place. Prizes will be awarded at the opening reception on Saturday, April 1 from 5-7 p.m.
Petaluma Arts Center
Located three blocks east of downtown, and housed in the historic railroad freight building next to the Downtown SMART train station, Petaluma Arts Center hosts art exhibitions, performances, art classes, films and events, including its Out of the Box series the Idea Lounge and the ArtBus.

Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission
Exhibition tickets are $5 general; $4 seniors, students, teachers, military; $3 groups; PAC members receive free entry to exhibitions.
