Sonoma-based decorative painter Jennifer LaPierre has reproduced a stunning 8’x 14’ reproduction of Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres’ famous La Grande Odalisque (see slides above) as a highlight feature of this year’s Marin Designers Rosegarden Estate Showcase that runs through June 5, 2010.
Created to adorn the striking Young Ingenue’s Room in the magnificent 8000 square feet 1929 Georgian Colonial "Rosegarden" home located on 1.5 acres of park-like grounds in the Country Club area of San Rafael, LaPierre’s La Grande Odalisque was commissioned by Petaluma-based interior designer Val Fiscalini.
“This was very exciting for me to recreate,” said LaPierre, whose grand work of Odalisque on canvas will be available for purchase after the Showcase with 10% of the proceeds going back to the Center for Volunteer and Non-Profit Leadership as a donation from Fiscalini.
La Grande Odalisque was originally commissioned by Napoleon’s sister, Queen Caroline Murat of Naples and completed in oil in 1814. She attracted wide criticism when first shown, largely for her elongated proportions and lack of anatomical realism. Today the original of this internationally renowned beauty enjoys a permanent home in the Louvre in Paris.
LaPierre switched genres for a teen crib graffiti ceiling in a ToDesign (From Mill Valley) rendition of a youth room in the multifaceted Rosegarden estate. Across the Bay into the city, the San Francisco Decorator Showcase is also featuring innovative design work by Sonoma County's LaPierre.
Memorial Day (Monday, May 31st) is the last day of this year’s showcase home being open for tour in the city. See photos above of LaPierre’s compelling crackled linen ceiling from by (Tiburon’s) Cecilie Starin Design, Inc’s gorgeous Ivory Tower room.
With proceeds benefiting the Financial Aid Program of San Francisco University High School, the San Francisco Decorator Showcase is likely to have raised around half a million dollars in its one month run.
Final chance to tour this year’s stately house is today (Sunday May 30th) and tomorrow from 11am to 4pm.
Petaluma designer Val Fiscalini and LaPierre teamed up for a second time this season with the San Francisco Decorator Showcase. “Val designed the Ebony and Ivory Bathroom on the 3rd floor - I provided the damask etched mirrors and pearlescent damask wall covering,” said LaPierre (see photos).
So popular is this creative concept of LaPierre's wall coverings that she will be releasing a new cracked linen line at Shears and Window in San Francisco.
Thirty of the Bay Area’s best interior and landscape designers are featured in the Marin County Rosegarden estate showcasing their talents and vision in creating spaces rich with original ideas and modern comforts.
La Pierre’s unique and refreshing approach is derived from a strong graphic design background, a degree in graphic technology from Santa Barbara and further studies in Florida and San Francisco’s Academy of Art. After launching her career in the graphic field, she apprenticed and trained with Artisans in the Bay Area for five years, working in both residential and prestigious hotels throughout the US.
LaPierre launched herself solo back in 1993, creates murals, custom wall covering, antiqued maps, tapestries, gilded canvasses and is a complete source for decorative finishes. Her Sonoma County studio combines artistic interpretations of classic art with a fusion of old world and contemporary elements. “I absolutely have a love affair with type and texture and incorporate it into much of my artwork/maps,” said LaPierre. “This is my 15th showcase that I have participated in and I’m looking forward to my fourth Sonoma Vintage Festival this September.”
