Ever-vigilant Sonoma Country Life reader, Anastasia Schuster was quick to respond to yesterday's post on earthquake preparedness here in California.
"I thought you might be interested in knowing about this upcoming class schedule for CERT training," said Petaluma's one-woman encyclopedia of community connectedness. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Programs educate people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills.
Ever wondered how you would fare in the event of being called to respond to fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations? Using specialized training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members are able to safely and effectively help others in their neighborhood or workplace following an emergency in which professional responders might not immediately be available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
Neighborhood Emergency Response Team's upcoming Petaluma CERT classes are set to begin on Monday, March 15th at Groverman Hall, on the campus of the Petaluma Valley Hospital.
All CERT Classes will be held on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.The April 12th final class includes a course review, exercise of a simulated disaster and graduation for those who have completed all sessions. Location of the site for all the action on April 12th is still under review.
A charge of $25 for the class series covers emergency supplies and a comprehensive course manual, though PetalumaNert kindly considers a waive of this nominal charge if it imposes a particular hardship in attendance.
Because the number of actual attendees must be confirmed to purchase and have on hand adequate supplies, Petaluma's Neighborhood Emergency Response Team requires that committed participants contact PetalumaNert to complete a Registration Form and return it, with payment - no later than Friday, March 12th, 2010.
