Significant PEF Major Impact Grant for McDowell School Closes Achievement Gap

Third in a series of posts on Sonoma Country Life featuring this year's Major Impact Grants to schools funded by the (Sonoma Country Life Sponsor) Petaluma Educational Foundation is a Smart Board Technology award for McDowell Elementary School to the tune of $15,000.

PEF Board member, Carol Isaak presented the check to delighted Principal, Maureen Rudder, before a crowd of enthusiastic teachers from the school's kindergarten through sixth grade.

Smart Boards are interactive white boards to replace the traditional standard white boards with technological tools and innovation necessary to increase student achievement and close the achievement gap.

"Interactive white board technology and software allows students to access real-world, multi-dimensional images to construct meaning and build vocabulary," says Rudder. 

All 316 students at McDowell School will be directly affected by the PEF grant award and with 88% of the student population identified as English Language Learners, the benefits of interactive teaching practice are indisputable.
