Here's an interesting online presentation for Petalumans and anyone interested in learning more this Thursday evening, October 15th about how Petaluma’s historic 1970s planning process challenged the way American cities think about development and demonstrated that nothing can make residents feel more like they belong than a chance to shape the community where they live.

In association with The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Sonoma County historian John Sheehy, co-author of the book: "On a River Winding Home" discusses Helen Putnam's role in Petaluma's journey to the Supreme Court in the 1970s.

Who determines a city’s future growth, the marketplace or its citizens? How Petaluma led by its first woman mayor, Helen Putnam, battled developers all the way to the Supreme Court to decide that question for the country in the 1970s.
