The Hero's Plate — Join Petaluma's Whisper Sisters, The Bagel Mill, The Shuckery, Barber Lee Spirits, Barber Cellars, The Sweet Zone & Stockhome in a Celebration of Local Every Day Heroes on the Front Line

Petaluma's Whisper Sisters, The Bagel Mill, The Shuckery, Barber Lee Spirits, Barber Cellars, The Sweet Zone & Stockhome are celebrating every day heroes and they need our help. They've created an innovative new local program called the Hero's Plate.

"The hospitality industry is made up of more than corporations and intangible entities," writes Sundell, co-owner of Stockhome restaurant with her chef husband, Roberth, at 220 Western Ave in downtown Petaluma. "We are essential small businesses run by your families and friends that are intent on building and strengthening our community. Those of us crazy and passionate enough to be working in the restaurant industry, in essence, are true hosts. Our joy comes from creating warm, welcoming spaces and the ultimate achievement for us is to know that you feel at home in ours. We have celebrated with you for every occasion. From birthdays, anniversaries and engagements, to celebrations of life, of passing and loss, we have been honored to provide a space for you. From meeting up with friends to having a moment alone, first dates and goodbyes, business ventures and leaps of faith, we have been there. We have been there for your life defining moments and are a part of your memories. Donating to your organizations, charities, schools and the like have been second nature to us as they are ours too.

Andrea writes: "Food and drink and the warmth that comes from sharing them with others is universal. It enables us to come together to share our flavors and cultures, express ideas, our passions and experiences, joy and pain. Do you remember the moment your eyes rolled to the back of your head from that unforgettable bite, that perfect sip? Or confessing your love over a glass of wine or bourbon? Or the time you hid the candy because you didn't want to share it with your kids and ate it at 10pm in bed watching Netflix? These are the moments we’ve shared together.

Covid 19 is the 4th crisis that Sonoma County has faced in three years. Through fire and flood, we have demonstrated that we are strong, resilient and that we know how to organize and mobilize for our community. However, this crisis is different. This moment has forced us to stay at home and has kept most of us away from the front line, who would have otherwise been there. This crisis has left us feeling more helpless than ever before as we are now lovingly being asked to stay home while others are being asked to show up every day. Small, family owned businesses feel helpless as well as we are struggling to ensure our doors stay open and that we are able to bring back our staff- our family- after the dust settles while still providing for our community. We are unable to provide monetary assistance as our funds are desperately necessary to our own survival."

This is why Barber Cellars, Barber Lee Spirits, The Shuckery, Whisper Sisters, The Sweet Zone, The Bagel Mill and Stockhome have joined together to create an organization we call "The Hero's Plate". This platform is intended to unite industry and community. It is something that we all can be a part of to show up for those on the front line. Each week the Hero's Plate will pick an organization to celebrate our everyday heroes that are out there working so hard for all of us. This includes healthcare professionals, grocery store workers, fire fighters, police officers, post office employees, labs, clinics, the list goes on and on. You will be able to choose from one or all of the participating businesses and order food, candy, wine, and cocktails to be donated. Restaurant staff will prepare, gather and deliver your donations to these organizations on your behalf, providing nourishment for them during these unprecedented times. Through "The Hero's Plate" you are supporting local establishments, as well as the people they support, while also saying, “thank you” to those in our community working diligently to keep us safe.
