It's my favorite time of year to gather and read from the pages of Fog Valley Winter — Pioneer Heritage, Backroad Rambles and Vintage Recipes from The Tastiest Little Place on Earth.
I've even baked some of the sweet treats to share from the hand illustrated pages of the book on the local food history of the microregion that is Southern Sonoma County and West Marin.
Pictured above is Nonna's Biscotti and a loaf of Welsh Miner's Bread, also known as Bara Brith — delicious dried fruits soaked in tea made for a hearty slice with jam in the miner's lunch pail back before the local contingency from Wales left the old country for California during the Gold Rush.

Second Street Flowers is alive with fresh garlands and wreaths and seasonal greenery and I can't think of a lovelier setting to gather and take time out from the bustle and bustle of this busy holiday season.
