This week I sat down with fellow Brit, Stephen Hamilton, Development Director of Petaluma Shakespeare Company, over coffee at Aqus Cafe. Stephen's stellar and extensive background with San Francisco's fabulous Shakespeare Festival makes me happy to hear that he and his wife, Fiona's move north to live in Petaluma three years ago means great and exciting things are in store for us here in the south county, theatrically speaking.
We talked about upcoming free As You Like It production, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept 16th through October 1st, 2016 on Foundry Wharf Green at H & 2nd Streets, Petaluma. Bring a blanket, a picnic, family and friends and make the most of such accessible Shakespeare.
Putting on the show and paying equity actors costs money. In order to move barriers for free theater and to build community, Petaluma Shakespeare Company invites us to a terrific and exclusive fundraiser at AZARI Vineyards, in West Petaluma on Sunday August 28th. Enjoy fine, cool climate Azari wines coupled with the family's delicious, homemade artisan pizza, cooked in a wood-burning pizza oven on site. We'll be fully entertained by the talents of the Petaluma Shakespeare Company while gazing over the rolling vineyards of the Petaluma Gap.
Raffle prizes include a part in the company's upcoming fall production . All proceeds benefit this year's free production of "As You Like It" performed at the Foundry Wharf by the Petaluma River.

About Petaluma Shakespeare Company
In the spring of 2015, a group of Shakespeare lovers had a vision. They saw themselves as the cast of ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ and knew it had to be done. With kamikaze-like dedication, athletic determination and support from a generous community, these local theater geeks launched the first annual Petaluma Shakespeare Festival.
They built a modern traveling wagon stage on a flatbed trailer and as fast as Puck “putting a girdle around the earth”, the gang gathered props, costume, scenery pieces and lighting. As the show pushed forward a crew and a production staff emerged from the woodwork of the community and pitched in.
Since this humble start the Petaluma Shakespeare Company has formed. Its mission is to make Shakespeare and the performing arts available to everyone regardless of age, ethnicity, financial status or level of education.
To increase reach and remove all barriers to audiences to experience the transformative works of Shakespeare, the Petaluma Shakespeare Company presents As You Like It — Free Shakespeare by the River, September 16th to October 1st, 2016. By removing practical and perceptual barriers, this forward thinking group encourages broad participation in the arts to make these artistic activities an active part of our community life.
