Big thanks to Michael "Bug" Deakin and Steve Jaxson, host of The Drive on Sonoma County's own KSRO News Talk Radio (1350 AM and 103.5 FM) for making me feel so at home in front of the mic during Tuesday's LIVE Reclamation Road Radio show.
Bug and I have both been working on our books this past year or more (he penned his entire first draft of Heritage Salvage Reclaimed Stories on a cross country train ride, of which I'm quite envious — mine took a lot longer than that). So it was great to chat about the sorts of things that go on behind the scenes in the making of a book.
We talked about my kickstarter campaign for publishing "Fog Valley Crush" pioneer fashion. I shared with listeners that there is one week left to pre-order copies on Kickstarter. I've been so encouraged by the support of my community in backing me on bringing my first book into the world! Crowdfunding is a bit of a roller coaster and not for the faint hearted. Get it right though and authors, musicians, artists are given the great gift of following through with dream projects and bringing them to fruition.
We talked about Nicky's beautiful art for the cover of "Fog Valley Crush". I'm so proud of how this book is going to look and feel to the touch. Lorna's inside design makes for a relaxing and elegant read, too.

Steve was intrigued by the blogosphere and how long I have been bringing you these mostly daily posts on life in Southern Sonoma Country!
Seven years. So much to share. It has been and continues to be my pleasure to have a platform on which I'm able to tell your stories as well as my own. To share what is important in the area and to enhance our lives with notices of fun things to do and the best places to check out.
We talked about the book and how hyper-local it is. How I came up with my own boundaries for the micro-region of which I write about here on Southern Sonoma Country Life and in my Argus Courier South County Notebook column every other Thursday. As most of us know, there is so much to write about in the Petaluma area and its surrounding countryside out to the coast that honing in on my 'beat' enables me to share a slice of life as we know it in our extended neighborhood.
Bug, if you didn't already know, shares in the Brit abroad culture, being from the commonwealth. We enjoyed a good bit of banter about my British accent and that I have somehow managed to hold on to it after 24 years in the States.
Now that I'm coming to the end of the initial crowdfunding experience (hip, hip, hooray, we did reach goal, but there's room for more in the week to come!) it's time for me to be focusing on where the books will be available in Petaluma and surrounding area, in time for holiday sales. More to follow on that once the pre-ordered first editions are in the hands of all the lovely people who have taken the time to reserve one or two, or four, or ten!
Pre-ordered book pick-up & signing locations are in the works for Thanksgiving week at a few of my very favorite places, including a special event at the Petaluma Arts Center (see Kickstarter for details)!
I will be posting regular updates on the book's website www.fogvalleycrush.com as well as here on Southern Sonoma Country Life.
And if you still haven't picked up a free bookmark, stop in for the final few at Aqus Cafe at Foundry Wharf, B St Mercantile, Free Range Provisions & Eats, Green String Farm Shop. I'm saving a batch of bookmarks to gift with each book pre-ordered on Kickstarter.
