I know I'm back in Southern Sonoma County when my first Saturday evening out on the town takes the form of summertime riverside revels amidst a large, laid-back crowd of merrymakers decked out in all manner of fanciful garb.
August's 2013 Rivertown Revival drew over eight-and-a-half thousand revelers to the banks of the Petaluma River for this annual afternoon and evening extravaganza of music, outlandish aquatic racing, people-watching, aerial feats and food.
Old West meets Victorian carnival - really anything goes. Add a twist of the time-machine and steam punk travel into the future spins this show into a fun realm of fashion free-for-all.
It's all about the celebration and preservation of the 'greatest little slough on earth' - thanks to a dedicated community of artists, thinkers and environmentalists who to quote the bard, have: "Tricked into learning with a laugh."
