The Wine Country Big Q is a Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) nationally sanctioned barbecue competition with its own true to its roots twist by adding the "Winery Big Beef Challenge" providing Sonoma and Napa County wineries an opportunity to pair their famous wines with mouthwatering barbecue.
There's a returning 'Bold Bean Challenge' and, new this year 'Bakin’ for Bacon' dessert competition, plus the Big Q has also been invited to be one of ten competitions in the Western United States to hold a Rancher’s Reserve Beef Cup contest.
Here's where you come in, if you're a bbq lover. A Public Tasting takes place at the event, starting at 1 pm.
Mosey your way through the festival sampling fast & high and slow & low cooked barbecued meats, and dessert, prepared by some of the best Pitmasters and teams in the U.S including: the Tex Wasabi All-Stars headed up by Dr. BBQ of Florida; last year’s grand champion team R&R BBQ from Utah; I.A.B. 30 from Arizona and the current Team of the Year points leader - Hog Island Pitmasters.
Tastes like summer - barbecue, a beer or glass of wine and live music from Sonoma County's own country music artist PETE [stringfellow] and Paulie’s Garage.
Wine Country Big Q is a benefit for the Children's Museum of Sonoma County. Adult admission is $45 for award-winning barbecue, beans and dessert, wine and beer tasting, live entertainment and giveaways. Youth tickets are $20 each and include access to a kid’s area.
Sonoma Academy is located at 2500 Farmers Lane, Santa Rosa (off of Kawana Springs Road). Visit the event web site at www.winecountrybigq.com for more information or call 707-523-3728.
