Petaluma Junior High School Garden Wonderland concept is one major step closer to reality thanks to a generous $5,000 PEF Major Impact Grant funded by Clover Stornetta Farms, plus a $1,000 matching grant from the non-profit educational foundation in conjunction with Autodesk.
Spearheading the project along with dynamic parent involvement, Independent Living teacher at the school, Charlene Nugent accepted a check in person today during a presentation by Clover's Marketing Director Joanie Benedetti-Claussen.
Ground breaking is planned for early March, as the sunny, partially-utilized and protected hillside plot makes way for a sustainable vision of outdoor education of the future. Community partners are stepping up to help shape, influence and maintain planting in raised beds and state-of-the-art composting. An outdoor ampitheater will provide a shaded open-air environment for presentations and teaching.
Benedetti-Clausen and Janet Ramatici, Executive Director of Petaluma Educational Foundation studied Petaluma landscape Architect Rob Brockman's extensive plans during the afternoon presentation, as Nugent thanked the school's beneficiaries for providing the foundations of her dreams for a garden wonderland.
