Devil's Gulch Ranch owners and Petaluma Gap wine alliance members, the passionate Mark Pasternak and family were at the airport, about to leave Haiti when the earthquake struck. The philanthropic family had, apparently been volunteering on the island, something they had been doing twice a year since 1997 as part of their farm's non-profit program that involves teaching villagers how to raise rabbits as a source of income and protein.
Though Myriam Kaplan-Pasternak, Mark's wife and a veterinarian, stayed behind in Haiti to help earthquake victims, Mark reported via e-mail to friends, supporters and family today that: "The last word from Myriam was a text message sent Saturday afternoon that she was safe in a village an hour North of Port au Prince. She is going to try to be getting a ride to the US Embassey in Port au Prince today or Monday to get evacuated. We will keep everyone posted as more news becomes available. Mark wrote that he and the couple's two daughters (aged 12 and 15): " Are just back from Haiti, where the devastation is not to be believed. DGES, our 501(c)3 non-profit will be collecting donations to directly aid the communities in Haiti that we have been working with for the last several years."
One hundred percent of money donated for this purpose will be sent directly to those in need in Haiti.
