Casinos of the Cote D'Azure not high on the summer travel plan for the majority of Petalumans this year, an evening at the high rolling tables of Monte Carlo came in at Hermann Sons Hall just in the nick of time as the calendar just conveniently flipped past tax day, this past weekend.
A bold and 'lucky' crowd of Valley Vista Elementary School parents, teachers and ardent supporters threw caution to the winds of the sluggish economy to raise the bar on annual fund raising for the PTA.
Valley Vista's Monte Carlo Night 2008 was quite a surprise to the coffers: according to event coordinator extraordinaire, Sara Cummings, the grand total for the evening's merriment totaled almost $5,000 over '07 and is expected to reach a grand total of approximately $13,000.
Just goes to show that community comes together in times of need and PTA funding is all the more essential since recent school budgets have slashed programs across the board.
Hosts for the evening were:Master of Ceremonies & Auctioneer Timo Rivetti, with dinner prepared by Preferred Sonoma Caterers, beverages catered by TRAXX, and music by DJ Chad Dunbar
2007-2008 Valley Vista Viking Voyage Committee consisted of Sara Cummings, Chair & Live Auction
Brenda Popielak, Class Projects & Silent Auction, Tasha Sanderson, Tickets: Liz White, Gaming, Prize Board & Insurance, Deborah Dalton, Table Sponsors & Silent Auction: Rosemary Galten. Diane Olson,
Ronda Bunker, Amy Reiner, Yvette Henry, Brenda Martin, Michelle Hartwell and PTA Chairperson Claire Eustace.
Haven't quite figured out how to be in two places at the same time, so missed out on Petaluma Rivercat's Youth Lacrosse Lobster Feed fund raiser at the Veteran's Hall. Also fund raising for Petaluma public school PTA that same night was McNear Elementary. Incredible to think of the money generated around town on one Saturday night out.
