It's been super fun getting to know several recently published fellow authors in the Petaluma area this past couple of years. And its especially rewarding when an author is a friend who I've known for a long time.
Tracy Otsuka and I met over two decades ago through the real estate community and kids sports. One of my fondest memories of those early days is talking Tracy into decorating a vintage truck for a holiday picnic photo shoot during the warm late summer months at her scenic property for an issue of the Petaluma Magazine. We all loved that magazine for the few years that it circulated and that holiday story was one of my favorites. Tracy is known for her outstanding hospitality skills and she tastefully and stylishly decked out the bed of a vintage truck with stunning plaid blankets and a gourmet set-up for holiday celebrations alfresco.
I consider her one of the most chic, fashionable, fun and enterprising women I know in wine country, though I think she's probably happiest entertaining at home and away on her many travels and certainly runs under the radar by choice. And so it wasn't a revelation to learn that she has extra powers over and above all this. Tracy was investigating how best to launch her brand in the ADHD coaching arena long before the launch of her first book and we talked about publishing back in the early days of my book writing enterprise.
I wasn't in the slightest bit surprised when I heard that Tracy had secured an agent and a publisher and I have been following along on her social media during the pre-sale and the first months of the book making a huge splash in the market. Turns out Tracy has sold over 10,000 copies of ADHD for Smart Ass Women in the first month alone. That's a lot of books. And it means that many people are paying attention to her message.
ADHD is one of the most common neurological disorders in the U.S.—and yet a staggering 75% of girls with the condition remain undiagnosed. Due to the gender gap in medical research, many ADHD women are left to navigate a society that fails to understand their struggles and gifts. But what if every woman had the resources and support to uncover the hidden wonders of her neurodivergent brain?
As Tracy knows best, the symptoms have a drastically different impact on girls and women— leading to increased problems with anxiety, depression, working memory, sleep, energy, and concentration. With this disparity in mind, Tracy provides life-changing strategies for:
-
Getting Diagnosed
-
Finding Focus
-
Staying Organized
-
Ending Overthinking
-
Boosting Confidence
-
Managing Time & Money
Now, as one of our nation’s leading ADHD coaches, Tracy —who transformed her life and thousands of others’ lives—has put everything she’s learned into one groundbreaking guide called ADHD FOR SMART ASS WOMEN: How to Fall in Love with Your Neurodivergent Brain (William Morrow). This insider’s handbook celebrates the differences of ASHD women and shows how they can succeed in ways they never could have imagined.
And Publishers Weekly: "Otsuka adapts her podcast of the same name into an accessible debut guide aimed at helping women to harness their neurodivergent traits to achieve their goals...Those new to their diagnoses will glean as much valuable insight from Otsuka's strategies as from her explanations of such matters as why emotional regulation is more difficult for neurodivergent women than neurotypical women. Delivered in lucid and unpretentious prose, this is a solid starting point for those just beginning to learn about ADHD and its effects on the brain."
It’s been long enough. It’s time to show girls and women everywhere how to unlock their unrealized potential and embrace ADHD symptoms as strengths.
