Rebuilding Together Petaluma has been working year round on projects throughout the pandemic. This wonderful organization sorely misses being able to hold regular, large volunteer rebuilding projects.
Staff are hoping and planning for an October 23rd workday this year. Stay tuned for that.
But right now Rebuilding Together Petaluma has an urgent challenge and could use our help.
A 42-year-old Petaluma father of three has had MS for the last 5 years. He and his family live in a 2nd story flat with many stairs. He is now confined to a wheelchair and he is in critical need of a way in and out of his home. It is not practical or possible for the family to move house at this time.
Rebuilding Together Petaluma wishes to install an electric wheel chair lift to solve this. The vendor, Lift & Accessibility Solutions, has already given Rebuilding Together a steep discount but because it needs to rise 9 ft rather than the usual 3ft, the lift and installation will cost $18,000.
Ordinarily funding would be able to cover this but the organization is currently stretched thin. Unfortunately since the non-profit has not been able to hold its large volunteer rebuilding projects its costs have risen drastically.
OHANA CONSTRUCTION and GEARY CONSTRUCTION generously volunteered their teams to do the necessary prep work of extending the upper porch deck to accommodate the lift and pouring a concrete landing and walkway with no charge for labor. Thank You, Hometown Heroes!
