Now tell me if this one doesn't float your boat — literally. Everything about this trip sounds stunning to me! Arctic travel experts Off the Map Travel is launching a new travel experience in Arctic Sweden this autumn 2018, Fall into Foraging, where guests will learn vital wilderness survival skills and collect ingredients to be used in a specially prepared Arctic dinner.
Set on the beautiful Lulea archipelago in Sweden, the setting allows for visits to multiple locations to challenge and educate. The program is available from September 18, 2025 through November 18, 2018.
The location for this fabulously new foodie and wilderness experience is the Brändön Lodge, a traditional log-built lodge set among the trees on the coast east of Lulea. From here, a professional local guide will test guests’ Arctic wilderness skills and impart knowledge and techniques passed down from generation to generation.

Jonny Cooper, Arctic travel expert and founder of Off the Map Travel, comments, “This is a true land and sea-to-table foodie experience. Lapland has a wealth of wildlife and wilderness, affording some of the best foraging and fishing opportunities in the world. Our guests will do it themselves, learning from expert guides how to catch and gather ingredients to make their own meal.”
Some of the survival skills to be learned include building a fire using only what you find in nature, examining fresh animal tracks and identifying the best place to set up camp The waters surrounding Brändön Lodge are filled with some of the Arctic’s most prized bounty including perch and pike. As part of the new itinerary, guests will join a scenic boat tour around the coast to catch even more ingredients for the final feast. Continuing around the coast, the boat will dock at Jopikgården, a charming hotel on Hindersön Island in the Lulea archipelago, where guests will spend a night.

The following day participants sail to some the best wildlife spots on the coast where seals bathe in the autumn sunshine and reindeer forage in the overgrowth. A stop at another island allows for foraging for land-based seasonal ingredients such as chanterelles.
Guests then return to the mainland to Brändön Lodge to cook together with a specialist wilderness chef in preparation of your final banquet. “The chef incorporates all of the ingredients gathered over the wilderness adventure and takes you through an Arctic cooking course,” adds Cooper. “Then it’s time to enjoy a meal together and hunt for the Northern Lights instead of dinner ingredients.”
