If you've yet to experience one of the Fresh Start Chef Events to benefit shelter and job training programs for previously homeless people in transition, I highly recommend you book yourself a seat at the table for Chef Marc Dym of Little River Inn presenting a taste of Mendocino with North Coast Brewing Co. from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24th.
Before moving to the Mendocino Coast in 1998, Dym toured the global restaurant scene from Texas and Pennsylvania to Antigua and Zurich. In 2006, he became Executive Chef at Little River Inn.
His menu for the evening:
- Abalone Fritters with Red Onion, Jalapeno, Red Pepper & Creole Remoulade
- Pine Nut-Crusted Local King Salmon with Braised Escarole & Parmesan Polenta
- Wild Huckleberry Sable Breton Biscuit with Pennyroyal Farm Laychee Goat Cheese
Trained at the Culinary Institute of America, Chef Marc moved to Mendocino to escape city living. His wife, Cally, is the fifth-generation innkeeper at Little River Inn, where he has garnered top ratings for American regional cuisine.
A pioneer in the craft beer movement, North Coast Brewing Company will offer their wares to accompany the menu. The Fort Bragg brewery makes award-winning beers like Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout and Scrimshaw Pilsner.
The brewery also sustains the regional jazz scene, sponsoring numerous jazz festivals and supporting the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz with every sale of Brother Thelonious Belgian Abbey Style Ale.
Tickets cost $60, including dinner; beer and wine will be offered. For more information and reservations, see http://bit.ly/FSchefevents or call 415-382-3363 x243.
The event takes place in the showcase kitchen at The KeyRoom, 1385 N. Hamilton Parkway, in Novato. All proceeds benefit shelter and job-training programs at Homeward Bound of Marin. Thanks to The Republic of Tea, premier sponsor for Fresh Starts Chef Events.
