Meet fellow Sonoma County good neighbor, Bency.
Bency grew up in Haiti, just south of Port-au-Prince and lived there with his family. After the earthquake in 2010, he came to the United States on a visa so that he could work and support his family back at home.
Today, he lives with family friends and former neighbors of mine in Petaluma, and has become, to them, just that — family.
They've watched him get up every day at 4 am to go to his job as a cook at a local nursing home. After work, Bency takes classes at the Jr. College to pursue his education. He continues to learn and educate himself. He's shared Haiti's culture with his adoptive family through delicious meals and anecdotes of life on the island.
He's a wonderful young man with a lot riding on his shoulders.
Now his family has lost everything in the hurricane. And his adoptive family and community want to help. They hope that we'll all pitch in something to help his family rebuild their home, their lives and all that was lost.
Click here for the GoFundMe page set up by Bency's adoptive family and show him with a few $ each that his work and contributions to our community have a far wider reach than he would ever have imagined.
