Second Street Flowers in Petaluma's Theatre Square is a haven of color, texture, shape and movement with its morning delivery of galvanized bucket loads of the best farm-fresh floral offerings of the west.
With Mother's Day around the corner and prom and wedding season on our doorstep, I stopped in for a chat with owner Tali Bouskila (below, left) and floral designer extraordinaire, Tamara Apple (right).
Tali has been in the floral biz for the past 15 years and is a co-partner in popular San Francisco-based Thistle Weddings & Events . This is her first storefront location. "Why Petaluma?" I asked, despite an appealing reverse commute.
"I grew up in Marin County," said Tali, whose seasonal farm-to-florist philosophy ties city event planning perfectly well with wine country weddings and sourcing. "Downtown Petaluma provides the ideal location for a store," she said.
Theatre Square's ample parking lot and free street parking is a novelty to the central San Franciscan, who revels in the convenience and luxury of clients being able to park up and pop in to pick up a bunch of flowers on their way to a party or home.
Second Street Flowers opened with a soft launch around Thanksgiving 2015. And word is spreading like the proverbial grapevine of her gorgeous bouquets, plants, succulents and floral arrangements.
"We offer something at everyone's price point," she said. Grab and go bouquets start at $15 to $25 and up and may be ordered up to the $150 range. Lots of options are available for on-the-spot floral shopping and especially around Mother's Day.
There is a discount $7 delivery fee for orders for downtown Petaluma, slightly more for delivery in a 15 mile radius.
Tamara modeled this super sweet California fresh floral/succulent and air plant hairpiece, suitable for prom, wedding parties or pretty much any special summertime event.
Ring corsages are new to me. I love this idea and this stunning example. Call 707 559 5243 or email secondstreetflowers@gmail.com and order ahead a few days with any specific color themes in mind.
Bride and grooms in the market for beautiful flowers for their big day are not required to order a minimum amount, making Second Street Flowers a terrific choice for any budget. If a backyard wedding is on the cards, a simple bouquet and a boutonnière might well suffice. Going all-out with a floral statement? That's good, too!
Tali and Tamara talked about a variety of floral and wreath making workshops in the near future in the Second Street store. "It makes a great community space," said Tali. "It's a fun place for people to stop by whether they're buying flowers or browsing. We've designed it to be comfortable and welcoming".
Second Street Flowers is located at 140 Second Street, Suite 116, Petaluma, CA. Hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10 am to 7 pm and Sundays 11 am to 5 pm. The store is closed on Tuesdays. Stop by and say hi!
