For many years now the annual, nationwide Letter Carrier's Food Drive has had one single Petaluma community leader passionately at the wheel as organizer for the entire city wide collection efforts.
Her rallying of the volunteer troops by the dozens has been nothing less than unwavering. This year, however, the food drive has come at a time of circumstantial challenge and our city's Food Drive matriarch is in much need of an eleventh-hour community rally in the gathering of willing hands to help sort/crate and organize donations for feeding families in Petaluma.
I've volunteered at this event in the past and it was an eye-opener as to how generous a community can (and should) be.
This is the largest single-day food drive in the nation. The goal, locally, is to collect enough food to restock the shelves of the Petaluma Salvation Army food pantry to provide for needy families during the coming year.
Needs are higher than ever.
Do reach out to friends and family whom you think might be kind enough to step up and help out at the Petaluma Salvation Army HQ - 721 South McDowell Blvd (x Caulfield) on Saturday May 9th, from 4pm to 7pm. Groups are great and a volunteer dinner will be served.
100 volunteers are needed.
If you aren't able to volunteer, please do leave non-perishable food donations out for your mail carrier to collect on Saturday. Every can counts.
Please RSVP here: Raghel.Santiago@USW.SalvationArmy.org or 707.769.0716

Thank you SO much for sharing this. Indeed this is a very special event and tons of fun too! I like to think of it as a modern day barn raising without the pie contest, but there'll be delicious BBQ chicken and hot dogs served up for the volunteers! :-)
And if EVERY person in our community put a few cans of food out for their letter carriers this Saturday the warehouse would be overflowing with food to feed the hungry in our community.
