Classic cars and raising barns… on May 9th 2015 the Sonoma County Fair Foundation and DenBeste Motorsports will bring these two unlikely elements together in an exclusive, “supercharged” fundraising event.
The event, which is limited to just 250 people, will be held in Bill DenBeste’s famed showroom in Windsor—home to the world’s largest collection of the iconic Shelby CSX Cobra.
Proceeds will benefit the Fair Foundation’s effort to build Saralee & Richard Kunde’s Barn, a permanent agricultural education center at the Sonoma County Events Center at the Fairgrounds.
The Foundation is seeking to build the center in honor of the late Saralee Kunde and her husband Richard, beloved supporters of the fair and widely considered the first couple of Sonoma County Agriculture.
The May 9 fundraising event to be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., will feature hors-d'oeuvres, medal-winning wine, beer by Lagunitas Brewing Company and a silent auction. B
But the best part for motor lovers will be the backdrop of Bill DenBeste’s famed showroom. DenBeste’s passion for cars and friendship with the legendary Carroll Shelby led him to open his showroom and dealership. Many would say his large and one-of-a-kind collection is a Shelby Cobra lover’s paradise.
“It’s full of some of the most beautiful cars on earth. This collection is truly world-class and it’s right here in our own backyard” says Pat Emery, president of the Sonoma County Fair Foundation. “We’re grateful to have such an amazing setting to host this fundraising event and are excited as we close in on our goal to make Saralee McClelland Kunde’s dream for a year-round agricultural education center a reality.”
The nearly 12,000 square foot barn will serve as the cornerstone for education to showcase and promote the county’s agricultural heritage and $4 billion industry. In March, the Fair Foundation surpassed the half-way mark in their fundraising goal. A total of $1.9 million is needed, which includes $1.6 million for construction costs and $300,000 to establish an Agriculture Education Endowment Fund.
