At COTS, the vision is to end homelessness for families, and job #1 is to prevent homelessness for the next generation of children in our community. Mentors can help prevent homelessness for kids. The folks at both non profits know from the research into adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) that mentors play a key role in helping kids to build resilience.
Resilience is the most important factor in a child’s ability to overcome obstacles to reaching their highest potential. Resilience is also the most important factor in ensuring that at-risk kids don’t use negative coping strategies that lead to disease, dysfunction, and homelessness later in life.
