Home winemakers unite!
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Petaluma Historical Museum cordially invite you to enter your wines in the Petaluma Pro-Am Homemade Wine Competition!
Entry of your wine is free. The rules are as follows:
1. This is a homemade wine making competition. Amateurs and professionals are welcome to enter
– but the wine must have been made at home.
2. “At home” means not having been made in a licensed/bonded winery.
3. There are two general categories:
1. Those wines made with grapes sourced from the Petaluma Gap
2. Those wines made from grapes sourced anywhere else.
4. The winemaker must be 21 years of age and over.
5. Each entry must consist of 6 bottles of your wine: 3 for the professional judging and 3 for the people’s choice judging. (See below for more details).
6. Each bottle must be identified with the exhibitor’s name; the varietal(s) used; wine style (fighting varietal, proprietary blend, cuvee, etc); the alcohol level; and the vintage when the grapes were picked.
7. Percentage of residual sugar in the wine must be labeled on the entry form.
8. Please provide contact information in case there are questions about the wine you submitted.
9. Awards will be given to the top winners and the wines will be featured at a gala dinner at the IOOF Lodge on October 25th.
The process of judging: Two unique perspectives on September 30th. On the morning of Tuesday, September 30th, the professional judging segment of the Pro-Am Homemade Wine Competition will be held at the historic IOOF Lodge in downtown Petaluma.

Christopher Sawyer will be the head judge for the competition. Other judges will include professional wine writers, sommeliers, wine educators and respected voices from the wine industry. - See www.WineJudging.com for more information on judging and bios on local wine judging
professionals. - The format of the judging will be based on the Danish System, with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals offered for each category.
- Tasting notes will be available to exhibitors who submitted their wines.
The second part of the day’s event is the People’s Choice Awards. Kicking off at 5:30 p.m. on the Back Patio of the Petaluma Historical Museum; this unique event will allow members of the public, curious wine consumers and members of the media, to taste through the highly-ranked homemade wines that were judged by the professional team earlier in the day.
- Upon admission to the tasting, guests will receive glasses, scorecards and instructions on how to rank the wines. Wine professionals who participated in the tasting earlier in the day will also be available to coach the guests through the process of judging the wines.

What’s in it for the winners?
- The winners of both segments of the judging will be announced the first week in October.
- The top four (4) wines will be the featured pairing at a 4 course dinner on Saturday, October 25th at the 160 year old dining room on the 3rd floor of the IOOF Lodge #30 at 111 Petaluma Blvd North.
- Each winner will be awarded two tickets ($100 each) to the dinner and will receive their award from professional wine judge and “Sommelier to the Stars” Christopher Sawyer.
- The dinner will be designed by local professional chef Amber Balshaw of Preferred Sonoma Caterers around the winning wines. ***THE WINNERS MUST BE ABLE TO PROVIDE 2 CASES OF THEIR WINNING WINE TO THE JACKETED, AWARDS DINNER FOR PAIRING WITH A COURSE.***
- The money raised from the event will be used to benefit the Petaluma History Museum and The Petaluma IOOF Building Renovation Fund.
- Dress for the dinner engagement is Wine Country Casual with blazers for men
- Only 80 tickets available for this unique Petaluma-themed Food & Wine pairing dinner
