Nick’s Cove Restaurant, Oyster Bar & Cottages has announced two new packages that will appeal to visitors and locals alike this autumn. Whether seeking a romantic sunset sail in a catamaran on Tomales Bay or a nighttime kayaking excursion to see bioluminescent dinoflagellates, this October and November brings adventurous new opportunities to enjoy the natural splendor of Tomales Bay.
A virtual paradise for outdoor activities, Tomales Bay is indisputably the largest unspoiled bay on the California coast. Not only is it beautiful, but Tomales Bay also happens to be home to some very rare bioluminescent dinoflagellates that, depending on the time of year and circadian rhythms, give water the appearance of sparkling light at nighttime.
Autumn tends to be a good time of year to witness this special occurrence, so this October and November, guests of Nick’s Cove may book the Bioluminescence Kayak Adventure package and enjoy a private guided nighttime tour of the illuminated waters of Tomales Bay led by Blue Waters Kayaking. On nights when the moon is shining too brightly to witness the bioluminescence, guests are encouraged to take to the water in a romantic moonlit kayak tour or embark upon a sunset paddle.
The Bioluminescence Kayak Adventure package is perfect for first-timers as well as experienced kayakers and includes:
- Overnight accommodations in a luxurious Waterview Cottage at Nick’s Cove
- A three hour, nighttime, naturalist-led, bioluminescence kayak tour for two by Blue Waters Kayaking
- BBQ oysters delivered upon arrival
- Continental breakfast for two delivered to the cottage in the morning with the day’s edition of the San Francisco Chronicle
- Two Nick’s Cove long-sleeved t-shirts and two Nick’s Cove metal water bottles, perfect for staying hydrated while paddling around the bay
The package is $538 October 1 through November 31, 2014, valid Monday – Thursday nights. Price is based on double occupancy and does not include room tax or gratuity for the kayak tour. If you book with another couple, the rate reduces to $418 per couple (price includes all of the above, including individual water view cottages).
For those who prefer to explore Tomales Bay by day, Nick’s Cove and Blue Waters Kayaking are also offering a morning paddle that bring guests up close and personal with the flora and fauna that call this beautiful coastal inlet home.
For the same price as the nighttime kayaking options, guests who book a morning paddle on Tomales Bay will experience a gentle naturalist-led tour that is perfect for first-timers as well as experienced paddlers and promises sightings of some of the area’s most beautiful wildlife including Tule Elk, harbor seals, pelicans, bat rays, osprey, and more.
For a nautical experience that requires less physical exertion and more indulgence, Nick’s Cove is excited to partner with Tomales Bay Sailing to offer a new Sunset Sailing Package this fall that takes guests on a two hour private, naturalist-led sail around Tomales Bay with Captain Brett Miller. Complete with sparkling wine and cheese platter to enjoy aboard the 32-foot catamaran as well as a Chef’s Tasting dinner in the award-winning restaurant at Nick’s Cove afterwards, this romantic evening includes:
- Two night accommodations in a luxurious Waterview Cottage at Nick’s Cove
- A two hour, guided sunset sail on a private catamaran that departs from and returns to Nick’s Cove
- Two Nick’s Cove long-sleeved t-shirts, perfect for boating
- Select sparkling wine and artisan cheese platter to enjoy on the water
- A Chef’s Tasting dinner for two in the restaurant at Nick’s Cove
- BBQ oysters delivered to the cottage upon arrival
- Continental breakfast for two delivered to the cottage in the morning with the day’s edition of the San Francisco Chronicle
The package is $787 October 1 through November 31, 2014, valid Monday – Thursday nights. Price is based on double occupancy and does not include room tax or gratuity for the sailing trip. If you book with another couple, the rate reduces to $699 per couple (price includes all of the above including individual waterview cottages; aboard there will be one bottle of sparkling wine and cheese platter for four).
Groups of up to six people may also book a catamaran sailing adventure through Nick’s Cove, without purchasing the overnight package. Sailing prices start at $96/hour for two passengers, up to $150/hour for six passengers. There is a two hour minimum; guests can sail the seas of Tomales Bay on a 32-foot catamaran led by a licensed captain at the helm. Guests may also request champagne, oysters, a cheese platter, and more for an extra charge. 72-hour notice required.
