The Petaluma Wildlife Museum will open its doors free of charge on Saturday September 28, 2013, as part of Smithsonian magazine’s ninth annual Museum Day Live! A nationwide event, Museum Day Live! offers free admission to visitors presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket at a participating museum or cultural institution.
Inclusive by design, the event represents Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone, giving museums across all 50 states the opportunity to emulate the free admission policy of the Smithsonian museums in Washington D.C.
The Petaluma Wildlife Museum is the country’s largest student-run museum, staffed and cared for by high school students who complete two yearlong courses on wildlife and museum management and volunteer hundreds of hours to care for and interpret the collection. These students will be your guides through dioramas of Africa, North America and into prehistoric time and will introduce you to the famous Reptile Room that houses almost 100 live animals. A local treasure and one of a kind applied science program, the Petaluma Wildlife Museum is not to be missed!

The Museum Day Live! ticket is available to download at Smithsonian.com/museumday.
