Almost eight-year-old Memphis Roetter of Cotati has made more of an impact on easing hunger in Sonoma County than many of us will have done in a lifetime. So much so, that this philanthropic little fella has caught the attention of the Red Cross. Memphis has been nominated for a Youth Humanitarian Award, to be presented this Spring at the organization's annual Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake Counties awards breakfast.
Memphis started donating his birthday to the cause of collecting food for the less fortunate, at aged five. Each year his drive of kindness and compassion has grown substantially from where it first started with the support of friends and family.
Now he has a spiffy new website, designed by Dad, with an online donation tool so that people from outside of the area are able to donate dollars for Memphis to buy food for county distribution.
If you are in the area and would like to help Memphis reach his goal of providing a whopping 8,888 meals this year, drop off non-perishables to his collection bins at the Redwood Cafe in Cotati or Splendid Little Shoppe, in downtown Petaluma.
Super proud Mom, Juli Roetter says: "We don't know if he'll win, but it's quite and honor for him to be nominated." Go Memphis, we hope you reach your goal!
