Stopped off at Point Reyes Station en-route back to Petaluma from a brief but splendid Stinson Beach girlfriends-only hike and overnight hide-away (write-up to follow).
For such a pint-sized pit-stop, this popular West Marin hamlet typically swarms with strange-shaped helmeted, locust-like cycling enthusiasts on weekends at time of year.
Bovine Bakery, Cow Girl Creamery, Toby's Feed Barn, arts and craft boutiques and Flower Power Home & Garden Store are a big draw, as, undoubtedly, is the best public loo block in the west county (well, nature does call for all on those outdoors types on their 40-mile-round-trip pedaling expeditions!).
Could not resist snapping a shot of these spectacular hand-crafted Princess crowns in Flower Power. Tempted by the one on the right at front for soon-to-be grad Sierra, but thought better of the staggering $48 price tag and have made a plan for an arts and crafts afternoon to come up with a Southern SoCo version of an affordable, sparkly promotion headpiece!
Aren't they lovely? Though I would not have been seen dead in such a thing as a teen, today's approach to festive frivolity allows a lot more leeway in the princess-for-a-day department.
If money is no object and you just have to have a handcrafted wonder from the snap above, email flowerpowermarin@mac.com or call the store at 415 663 8839.
