All it takes is one sweet little cupcake at a time to make an impact upon the community. How could anyone possibly resist a homemade brownie or scrumptious snickerdoodle when all the proceeds will be making their way to Petaluma People Services, Christmas Cheer and the Petaluma Kitchen?
Sara and Ruby pictured above were two of P'Town's intrepid Independent troop of Girl Scouts (not pictured were additional young bakers, Michaela, Mikaela and Shelby) serving up their home baked breakfast snacks and day-long yummy stuff with refreshing lemonade and coffee at the semi-annual Petaluma Downtown Antiques Fair today.
Ruby's Mum (note the spelling - YES, Marie's a most important British American about town for she's none other than the director of our exemplary downtown association) frequently works around the clock to keep these wonderful street fairs from vanishing into thin air in such challenging economic conditions.
There was certainly no shortage of local shoppers and out-of-town visitors browsing the bric-a-brac stalls of vintage baubles and bangles and beautiful linens, furniture and art. Not surprisingly, perhaps, there were bargains to be had as dealers welcomed customers with flexibility and fair prices.
Buying a couple of vintage frames from one such dealer, I learned how Australia, Europe and Japan are currently keeping many American antique merchants afloat as they continue take advantage of the weakened dollar, shipping all sorts of odds and ends around the world. Was glad to see they left enough of these oddities and treasures for us to sift through in sunny Sonoma County this afternoon!
The hard working girl guides were quick to praise sponsors Petaluma Market, Lakeville Lucky, Safeway, Grocery Outlet, Noah's Bagels, Heaven Sent Cafe and of course, the Downtown Association for making their super-tasty fundraising booth the big hit is has been as thousands of hungry antique hunters submitted to its sweet success!
