I've said it before and I'll say it again, Keller Estate Winery is one of Petaluma's utmost hidden gems of contemplative exploration, a treat for the senses, peacefully nestled into the rolling vineyards off Lakeville Highway and producing some of the absolute best Pinot Noir and cool climate varietals to be found within the entire region.
And this particular Petaluma Gap vineyard team, spearheaded by super-talented winemaker, Michael McNeill, has been planning some pretty amazing special summer events for wine club members and those in the know that you don't have to trek over the grade to Sonoma or Napa for ultra-exclusive, award-winning vineyard wining and dining experiences.
The tastiest by far sounds to me a glorious June 21st Lobster Lunch, with oysters on the half shell and a variety of artisan cheeses. Expect live Maine lobsters in steaming pots with jumbo shrimp, artichokes, potatoes, onion, garlic, corn on the cob and decadent truffles infused with Mr McNeill's cool-climate syrah.
Perfectly paired no doubt with a Keller 2005 Burgundian La Cruz Chardonnay, or quite possibly the equally divine local 2006 Pinot Gris.
At $95 per ticket for Keller's Key Club members and $125 for non members, it may be worth your while to join the club and fill your social calendar with even more enticing Keller Estate engagements, including the winery's Harvest Dinner on September 27th. Call the tasting room for more info at 707 765 2117.
