Good Friday's dining options are all about the seafood and what better way to dish up a colorful array of spectacular shellfish than a party-sized Paella?
Good Friday just so happened to be the chosen date to celebrate the birthdays of two good friends. And when they both happen to be a) married to one another and b) professional cooks, why would you even think of going out to eat?
Birthday boy Joel Baecker (voted best professional caterer of 2007 by the San Francisco Herald) was master of the vineyard kitchen for the evening, creating an incredible paella for he and Naomi's birthday celebrations with ten more than happy P'Town pals.
A Spanish theme of pot-luck appetizers and wines made for a refreshing diversion from the standard Italian holiday foods which traditionally fill our Easter table.
There's an art to whipping up a wonderful paella, and it was every bit as pleasurable to watch Joel work on his culinary masterpiece as it was to dive into it at the dining table! Giant shrimp and mussels galore, with second helpings for all twelve of us and some left over in the fridge for today's hang-over lunch special!
If you're North Bay based, head over to Joel and Naomi's Pizza Politano brick oven at Marin Farmer's Market on a Sunday morning. Petaluma's Wednesday night Farmer's Markets will be back in June and these individually -sized artisan pizzas are the prized catch!
