Two days away from the hillside vineyard at home and what's the first thing I spot when I step out of bed this morning, bleary eyed from Spring Break's mini mountain marathon? These beautiful, bountiful, budding vines, that's what!
Chardonnay and Pinot were ahead of the pack here in Sonoma County, with typical early bloomers bursting forth ahead of Spring a couple weeks back.
In fact, our Easter Sunday drive through Alexander Valley made for impressive viewing of the region's rapidly developing, famous fruit clusters. And at that point, I hadn't noticed anything dramatic in our typically late-budding Syrah blooming department.
At least not from my bedroom window at the foot of the hill. For something must have been taking place discreetly up there in the vines. Enough sunshine these past couple of days to encourage the little darlings to dramatically embrace the great new season of growth!
Hopefully we are out of the woods as far as any serious frosts lingering over Sonoma County. These perky pink and white buds have some serious business ahead of them over the next six months.

Oh how I love this time of year! Spring has Sprung! The weather forecast was cute yesterday. It read, "Just enough rain expected to make your weeds easy to pull, or to make them grow like crazy if you don't." Consequently, 12 year old son and I are in a mad race to "git 'er done" this afternoon! Better get back at it...
