"Dear Cheese Lovers", say the folks at the 6th Annual California Artisan Cheese Festival, today, Saturday (March 25th 2012), day two of a three-day outdoor and indoor extravaganza, centered here in the Normandy of the North - Southern Sonoma County... Sunday's Martketplace and Brunch are officially sold out.
If you're reading this today (Saturday), you might just sqeeze in to a seminar or two at the Sheraton. And there are a few tickets available for the roaming cheese feast Grand Tasting and Best in Cheese Competition gala this evening, featuring over 20 of the Bay Area's best restaurants featuring artisan cheese-inspired creations.
This year, for the first time, I took a seat in one of the fleet of mini-buses traversing the country roads that weave through Southern Sonoma County and West Marin, for a Friday tour of three very different, artisan cheesemaking operations.
Amongst a convivial group of ER room nurse cheese-lovers, urban homesteaders and hobby cheesemakers from as far afield as Chicago, I happily surrendered my day to the grassy pastures, milking stalls and cheesemaking production facilities of farmsteaders and the country's premier artisan cheese broker.
